Set in New York in June 1961, Everybody Digs Bill Evans enters a pivotal moment in the life of one of jazz’s most influential pianists. Bill Evans is performing with the trio he considers his perfect musical partnership, alongside bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian.
But when LaFaro dies tragically at just 25, Evans is devastated. The loss shatters not only a close friendship, but the musical partnership at the heart of his artistic world. Directed by Grant Gee and starring Anders Danielsen Lie as Bill Evans, this 2026 biographical drama explores the turbulent period that follows LaFaro’s death, as Evans struggles with grief and questions whether he can continue to play.
Against the backdrop of New York’s vibrant jazz scene, the film delves into the fragile relationship between creativity, friendship and loss — and the profound personal cost of making music. Written by Mark O’Halloran and based on Owen Martell’s 2013 novel Intermission, the film features a distinguished cast including Bill Pullman, Barry Ward, Laurie Metcalf, Valene Kane and Katie McGrath.
