Sondre Lerche

Sondre Lerche is one of Norway's most prominent and diverse international pop artists so far this millennium. He is the rare artist who made his debut as a precocious teenager, and yet has continued to develop towards ever new artistic heights. Most recently with the double album "Avatars Of Love" (2022), which was described as "one of the best Norwegian albums of all time" by NRK's reviewer and received the Spellemannprisen for Alternative Pop/Rock Album of the Year, in addition to a host of nominations and other awards. British UNCUT Magazine gave "Avatars of Love" nine out of ten stars and compared Lerche favorably to Cole Porter, Leonard Cohen, Tom Jobim and Paddy McAloon, and Lerche once again toured the world with his unique auteur pop. His debut album "Faces Down" (2001) received the Spellemann Prize for Newcomer of the Year in 2002 and was also named one of the year's best releases by the American Rolling Stone Magazine and several other American music magazines. Lerche has since toured extensively throughout the world, and especially the United States, where he lived from 2005 to 2020. He has performed on David Letterman's Late Night show twice, and in addition to 10 studio albums and many EPs, has composed film music for the American blockbuster "Dan in Real Life" (Juliette Binoche, Steve Carell, Dianne Wiest), as well as the Sundance indie film "The Sleepwalker". In recent years, Lerche has also distinguished himself as a musical essayist with the collection "Alle sanger handler om deg", as well as several children's books. In January 2025, Sondre Lerche and his 52-person ensemble performed a completely out of the ordinary performance at the Norwegian Opera & Ballet. The career-summing-up concert was divided into two chronological acts and performed to two sold-out houses, in what was a dizzying musical and visual marathon performance both on stage and backstage. Dagsavisen gave it 6 out of 6 and called it "an astonishing evening". Popklikk described the concert as "an absolutely extraordinary performance". Audun Vinger in Tidens Ã…nd concluded: "There are not many Norwegian artists, sorry: musicians who could have gotten away with such a performance and effort with the same elegant ease". Earlier this year, Lerche also released another critically acclaimed release, this time in the form of "Sea of Sighs", a collection of instrumental and minimalist compositions. For the rest of 2025 he is working on recording his next album.
