David Bowie: Five Years is the first chapter in Francis Whately’s acclaimed cinematic exploration of one of popular music’s most extraordinary careers. The 2013 British documentary focuses on five pivotal years — 1971, 1975, 1977, 1980 and 1983 — when Bowie repeatedly tore up the rulebook, reinvented himself and reshaped the musical landscape around him.
What emerges is a remarkable journey through some of the defining identities of Bowie’s career: from the otherworldly Ziggy Stardust, through the soul-infused brilliance of Young Americans, to the enigmatic Thin White Duke.
