In times of social change, the power of music and song is strong. Each year, HIMF will ask the important question, "How can music films contribute to positive change in society"?

This year we will screen “Music + Revolution = Velvet Revolution", from 2024, directed by Slavomír Zrebný. The film explores the role of music during the 1989 Velvet Revolution in the former Czechoslovakia.

The HIMF screening will be the international premiere, following the Slovak national premiere in November 2024, which marked the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution.

Presented and narrated by former Minister of Culture of Slovakia, Ladislav Snopko, this is the compelling story showing how music influenced social change and mobilized people in the fight for freedom. He was notedly co-founder of Public Against Violence, the movement that led the Velvet Revolution in Slovakia to freedom in 1989.
